Christoph's all-koa baritone is coming together very nicely. Over the last 10 days I've completed assembly of the rim, braced the top and back and assembled the soundbox. I recently used a Bolivian rosewood bridge plate on Chris Ruble's Aurora and was extremely pleased with that instrument so I've used the same here. You can see that on this instrument I'm using a much more flexible bracing pattern on the top, due to the relative stiffness of the koa. I'll also be thinning the koa a good bit more than I generally thin a spruce top. Regardless of the wood I use, I'm always building for the proper stiffness/flexibility and vibrational response in the completed top, so different woods can call for slightly different approaches.
