Over the last week I've made the neck and bridge for Juston's European Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood Arena OM, and done all the fine detailing and finish sanding to prepare the surfaces for lacquer finishing. The fingerboard and bridge are both made of cocobolo, which is very beautiful, and a fine substitute for ebony, which is more traditional. Both cocobolo and ebony are extremeley hard, and stable, desireable properties for these components. Juston's Areana includes several very nice features. It has a cutaway for easier access to the higher frets for the player's left hand, a Ryan-style armrest bevel which helps the player's right arm feel comfortable in a wide range of playing positions along the strings, and a multi-scale fret configuration whereby the bass strings are a bit longer than the treble strings, providing a bit of extra tensions and power there. On juston's guitar the scale length (basically the length of the string) along the treble-side edge of the fingerboard is 25.5", which is very standard, but the scale length along the bass-side edge is 3/4" longer. Can't wait to play it! :)
